We had a great Belt Ceremony and end of the year celebration last December. It was a special one! We had students promoted to the Black Belt and a degree awarded to Kenric Toliver on his Black Belt. We had students promoted to the White Belt/Blue Stripe, Blue and Purple Belts as well and the presence of many BJJ Black Belts. You can check it all below. Cops4Kids visit at the Tinguinha BJJ Academy!!
This past week we had the visit of the kids in the Cops 4 kids program of Anaheim and Professor Tinguinha with Instructor Russell Cantorna got to do a nice demonstration of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for them. It was nice getting their visit and seeing the kids learning something positive.

Black Belts BJJ Workshop at the UFC GYM Concord!!
Last week Professor Tinguinha together with some of the BJJ Coaches from the UFC Gym Los Angeles and Corona visit the very 1st UFC Gym, The UFC Gym Concord and joined the UFC Gym Concord BJJ Instructors for a BJJ Workshop. They went over the UFC GYM BJJ Program such as classes, curriculums and rank promotions and taught BJJ techniques as well as trained with the students in attendance. We got the presence of few TBJJ Affiliated members as well as TBJJ Affiliate- Speedy BJJ's Instructor Luis Gonzalez and TBJJ Affiliate- Clovis BJJ Instructor Ray Alvarado. Professor Tinguinha got the chance to stop by The Roberto "Gordo" Seminar and visit the Batata BJJ School. It was a very positive weekend for the UFC Gym BJJ program and Professor Tinguinha.

Congratulations to our affiliated schools The Clovis BJJ School and Optimus BJJ School for their recent placings at the US Open Tournament and The World NoGi Tournament. Both schools have been doing a great job with their respective teams and it's great to see the results in these competitions. The Clovis BJJ School brought home 3 medals at the US Open Tournament,one gold medal and two bronze medal,. And in the recent 2011 No Gi Worlds championship Clovis BJJ had a 2nd place and a 3rd place winners. Great job! Optimus BJJ also represented the Tinguinha BJJ flag in the Jiu-Jitsu Progear tournament that took place in San Clemente recently achieving a 2nd and 3rd placing in the tournament. TBJJ Academy end of the year celebration and Belt Promotion
The Tinguinha BJJ academy will be having it's end of the year celebration and belt promotion Saturday December,10th.We are going to have a very special Belt Promotion with students and instructors from some of our TBJJ affiliated schools coming to celebrate with us as well as some of the UFC GYMS students.
We will be promoting students to the White Belt-Blue Stripe, Blue Belt, Purple Belt and Black Belt as well as students being promoted with stripes in all belt ranks. We will be also awarding and honoring our student of the year and will be concluding our celebration with a potluck.
TBJJ Affiliated schools that will be present- Speedy BJJ, Clovis BJJ and Optimus BJJ.
We will have Black belts present and are planning a great celebration.

TBJJ Team Results at the JiuJitsu Progear tournament!!
The Tinguinha BJJ Team had a great time and results at the 2nd JiuJitsu Progear Open Tournament this past weekend in San Clemente. We had 9 students competing and brought back 6 medals, 3 gold and 3 silver.The team got 6th place overall.Great job!!

Professor Tinguinha's ABJJ School seminar turnout and pictures!!
Professor Tinguinha just returned from a visit to the TBJJ Affiliated school in Alaska, the ABJJ School. The visit was great, he taught a class Friday and seminar Saturday October,15th. The seminar had a great turnout, 50 people in attendance.Also on Saturday Professor Tinguinha was able to be there for the belt ceremony where few ABJJ teammates got promoted. As always Professor Tinguinha had a nice time visiting everyone there and is glad to see their growth, each time getting stronger. In his visit to Alaska Professor Tinguinha made 2 belt promotions. He promoted David to the Brown Belt and Ryder Spadafore got promoted by professor Tinguinha to the high BJJ Belt, the Black Belt. The Tinguinha BJJ Head Quarter's team is very happy for this new addition to our Black Belts team and happy for him for this big accomplishment after having put the time and hard work into his training and learning. TBJJ Teammate's Daniel "San" 's recovery!!
Tinguinha BJJ Teammate Daniel Gonzalez recently underwent a serious surgery and we are glad to inform everyone that he is recovering fast and well. Last week Professor Tinguinha together with Instructors Russell Cantorna, Jeff Nolasco, Kenric Toliver and TBJJ teammate Herb Laano went to visit him and were glad to see him doing well and slowly feeling better. We continue to wish him a nice and full recovery and have him in our thoughts.
The Tinguinha BJJ Affiliated school in North California, The Clovis BJJ School participated in the American Nationals Tournament that took place September 25th, representing the TBJJ Academy very nicely. They had 4 competitors in the tournament, all placing with medals bringing home 3 gold for Angel Lopez in the Gi and the No Gi categories and Ray Yeskas, 1 silve for RJ Pulsunr and 1 bronze for Jeff Shields. Last weekend we had our Kids Fun Class at The Tinguinha BJJ Headquarter in Yorba Linda. The class was great.It was geared towards kids 4 to 8 years old and included Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Self Defense Techniques and BJJ related games.The kids had a blast. Tinguinha BJJ Affiliation's Official Grand Opening!!
This past Saturday July, 9th Professor Tinguinha had the pleasure to be at The Tinguinha BJJ Affiliated School in Laguna Niguel, CA The Optimus BJJ School, owned and operated by Tinguinha BJJ Black Belt Grant Collins. This was the official Grand Opening of the school and they counted with the presences of Professor Tinguinha, TBJJ Black Belt Mike Brown, BJJ Black Belt Albert Crane and TBJJ Yorba Linda students. Professor Tinguinha and Albert Crane taught a few techniques at the event and the students present had a nice training session afterwards. Our Tinguinha BJJ Academy Competition Class is coming back to it's schedule this UPCOMING SATURDAY JUlY,16th. We will be getting ready fora few upcoming competitions and will be resuming our competition training after a short break. Our TBJJ Competition Class and Training is a great way for our interested students to get ready to compete and/or learn competition stratergies, points, timing and rules. We had the pleasure to welcome to the Tinguinha BJJ Academy BJJ Black Belts Roberto "Gordo", Vinicius "Draculino", Sandro "Batata" and Julio Echeverria on the week of the World Championship of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the begining of this month. "Gordo" was here at some of our classes

Tinguinha BJJ Academy 16th Belt Ceremony!!!
The Tinguinha BJJ Academy is proud to announce our upcoming 16th Belt Ceremony, taking place SATURDAY June, 18th at The Tinguinha BJJ Academy. Belt ceremony will start at 11:00am. We will have students moving up from white Belt-Yellow Stripe to the Brown Belt besides stripes in all belts.
We will be taking our Group Picture so make sure to bring your Gi and come support our teammates.
After the ceremony we will be heading to the Brazilian Barbecue Restaurant- Amazon located in Fullerton.

The Tinguinha BJJ Academy in an effort to offer a better service and information to our students and better assist our members achieve their goals and take their training to the next level is still offering TBJJ Student Consultations- A 1 on 1 with the Tinguinha BJJ Instructors to go over our students goals, improvements and give tips to help them achieve all of their pontential in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. This is the last week for our Students Consultations if you haven't taken advantage of this Tinguinha BJJ service schedule yours at our school's front desk immediately. The Tinguinha BJJ 6th In House Tournament that took place at our school last Saturday May, 21st was great!! We had 10 schools participating, fights from White to the Purple Belt and a great Black Belt Superfight. We would like to thank all the schools participating and all the competitors and coaches and a special thank you to the TBJJ Staff for helping the tournament run smoothly. Tinguinha BJJ Academy's Memorial Day Schedule!!!
Due to the Memorial Day Holiday The Tinguinha BJJ Academy will have a change in shedule starting Saturday- May 28th. On Saturday May, 28th we will NOT have our regular Mixed (All Levels) Class, we will have an OPEN MAT SESSION from 11:00 am to 12:00pm, the school will be CLOSED Sunday May, 29th and Monday May, 30th.
Classes will return to regular schedule Tuesday May,31st.

TBJJ Team Member Greg Lawson Farewell Dinner!!
Last night The TBJJ Team got together to say goodbye to our TBJJ Teammate and Instructor Greg Lawson who is moving from California. The Team went out to eat and get together with Greg one last time. We are sad to see Greg go but are certain that he will be representing the team and making us proud anywhere he is. We wish him the best of luck in his new ventures and will be waiting for his visit.

Tinguinha BJJ Women's Safe & Fit Course II Conclusion!!
We had this Saturday, April 2nd the last day of our TBJJ Women's Safe & Fit 2nd Course. It was a great conclusion to a great course. The women enrolled in our course learned different self defense techniques as well as got a great workout all in one, some also took our kickboxing classes. Great job ladies!! The Tinguinha BJJ Academy just added a new water filtration system at our school. We trully value our students comfort while here and are glad to offer this new service. TBJJ students can now refill or fill their water bottles with cold & hot water. So make sure you bring your bottles to fill with water if you wish to do so. There are no cups available. Professor Tinguinha receives official 4th degree certificate!!
Professor Tinguinha has recently been officially awarded his 4th degree for his 15 years as a Black Belt. He has now received his official 4th degree Black Belt Certificates from the International Federation of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and The American Federation of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu making his new rank officially recognized by both federations. We congratulate the Professor on his achievement for the many years of commitment to sharing his knowledge of this martial art.

Tinguinha BJJ Academy Team at the 2011 Pan American Championship of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu!!
The Tinguinha BJJ Team came together for this past Pan American Championship of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that took place last weekend from Thursday till Sunday. We had TBJJ Members fighting all days of competition and it was great seeing our team coming together and giving their all. Overall was a good experience for our team, we brought home 8 medals in different categories. We would like to thank our team, our affiliations, The TBJJ Alaska (ABJJ Academy), The TBJJ Clovis & The Tinguinha/UFCGYM Rosemead for coming together and representing our flag and our Academy and putting their heart into it. Let's keep training and get ready for the next one.

Gordo's Half Guard Seminar & Black Belt Promotions Saturday at the TBJJ Academy!!
This past Saturday-March 19th was a very special day at our school. We had a great half guard seminar with Half Guard Master Roberto "Gordo" Correia at The Tinguinha BJJ Academy. The seminar was really nice, we had a FULL House, great turnout and the presence of Black Belts, Paulo Guillobel, Pedro Soriano, Justin Charon (from TBJJ Alaska) & TBJJ Black Belts Kenric Toliver & Mike Brown. After the seminar we proudly promoted TBJJ Team members Grant Collins & Greg Lawson to the Black Belt and Professor Tinguinha was officially presented by Gordo with his 4th degree on his Black Belt, we also had the pleasure to honor Professor Tinguinha for his work and dedication to the TBJJ Team, Affiliations & Network. The Belt Promotion was wonderful, we counted with the presence of Black Belts, Alberto Crane, Kris Shaw, Roberto Gordo, Paulo Guillobel, Pedro Soriano, Justin Charon, Kenric Toliver, Mike Brown & Professor Tinguinha. at The UFCGYM Corona!!
Part of our TBJJ Team of Instructors together with Professor Tinguinha did a BJJ Demo at the Grand Opening of the NEW UFC GYM location in Corona last Saturday- March 5th. The demonstration went great, we had Professors Tinguinha, Mike Brown & Kenric Toliver Plus Instructor Greg Lawson teaching the BJJ Demo and it was a nice start at this new location where some of our TBJJ Instructors will be teaching regularly. We would like to take this opportunity to thank coaches Sam Chen & Paul LaPorte for the great job done at our Tinguinha BJJ Academy's Saturday classes this past Saturday while the BJJ Demo was taking place at the UFC GYM-Corona. We had a full house and classes went really good. Thank you coaches!!

TBJJ Black Belt Kris shaw's BJJ Seminar in Michigan!!!
TBJJ Team Member, BJJ Black Belt Kris Shaw returned recently from a seminar she taught at the EastWest Martial Arts Academy in Canton- Michigan. Seminar went really well and had a great turnout with 23 people coming to learn from Kris, one of very few American BJJ Female Black Belts, some coming from hundreds of miles away even under an impending snow storm.

Professor Tinguinha's Law Enforcement Seminar at the UFC GYM - Rosemead!!
Professor Tinguinha taught a seminar recently at the UFC GYM Rosemead for Law Enforcement Members including FBI, DEA, Secret Services & Police Officers.The seminar had over 30 attendees and covered specific Law Enforcement Self Defense Techniques. With Professor "Tinguinha", TBJJ Team member and Police Officer Alex Orozco and TBJJ Instructor Greg Lawson also taught the seminar. TBJJ Team Results at The 2 In House Tournaments of this past Saturday!!!
The Tinguinha BJJ Team participated in 2 In House Tournaments this Saturday. First stop was the Alexandre Novaes 1st In House Tournament where few teammates fought, we then headed to The Pedro Soriano 3rd In House Tournament where few other members competed. Tinguinha BJJ Team at The Kids Pan American Championship!!
Some of our Tinguinha BJJ Kids/Junior team members competed this past weekend at the Kids Pan American Championship and it was great to see them out there putting in practice their training. After a wonderful Women Self Defense Workshop The Tinguinha BJJ Academy brings a great course, WOMEN SAFE & FIT. A practical self defense class designed to empower women to defend themselves using the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu martial art. It will be divided into a 7 weeks Class, our Women Safe & Fit classes will include basic safety concepts, self defense techniques, and fitness exercises rolled into one!! Covering different escapes, blocks to different attacks and variations to the movements. Giving our students basic solutions to the most common assalt scenarios. The Tinguinha BJJ Academy had last Saturday a wonderful Women Self Defense Workshop. We had a great turnout and the workshop was very productive!! The ladies warmed up with some great exercises and then we had an hour of practical self defense techniques in a fun and easy to learn way. We would like to thank everyone in attendance and thank our students for supporting as always and bringing their families and friends!! Below you can check a few pictures from this great event.
The Tinguinha BJJ Academy offered this month to our team of instructors and some of our associated schools instructors and our Staff in training an amazing opportunity to go over and learn from Professor Tinguinha himself the step by step of how to teach and be an instructor.
Professor Tinguinha who has over 25 years experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and has been teaching for almost 20 years took his time to go over the philosophy of our Academy and the TBJJ system and classs curriculum as well as went throughly over the best ways to teach our fundamentals programs and TBJJ systems. The TBJJ course had the duration of 3 days- 3 hours per day.
Our goal is to prepare our staff to offer the best quality of instruction out there and we are excited to see them putting into practice the course's contents.
We are planing to have the TBJJ instructors course 2 times per year and this will be open for TBJJ students interested in learning our methods, system and philosophy for all schools who would be interested. Inspirational day at The Tinguinha BJJ Academy!!
We were very glad to celebrate this Friday a big birthday of one of our students. Greg Lopez, a TBJJ Brown Belt who will be turning 50 this Sunday and we are very proud to have him here on our mats rolling, learning and progressing with sometimes kids half his age. Always happy and willing to learn. Professor Tinguinha gave a speech after class reinforcing how important training BJJ is and how is such a technical art form that is open for everybody. Tinguinha BJJ Academy's 15th Belt Ceremony & End of the Year Celebration!!!
Our 15th Belt Ceremony & End of the year celebration this past Saturday, December 11th was great!! We had a full house!! We had 61 students being promoted with stripes, being 21 White Belts, 1 White Belt-Yellow Stripe, 1 Yellow Belt, 26 Blue Belts, 10 Purple Belts and 3 Brown Belts and we had 17 students moving up to higher belt ranks, being 2 White Belts/Yellow Stripes, 3 Yellow Belts-Orange Stripes, 1 White Belt- Blue Stripe, 4 Blue Belts, 6 Purple Belts and 1 Brown Belt. We would like to congratulate all the promoted students for all their effort and had work put on the mat!! Well Done!! The ceremony went on with certificates of conclusion presented to our Women Safe & Fit class as well as the nomination of our students of the year and awards. We also announced the inclusion of a new belt in our belt system. Following that Professor Tinguinha did a little surprise tribute for his wife, our school manager, Livia Mariano. We concluded our celebration with our Group Picture and a wonderful potluck!! We would like to thank the TBJJ Team, Staff, All the students in attendance and their families and friends for the support to our celebration!! Last Saturday, December 4th we had the conclusion of our Women's Safe & Fit 1st Course. The class was great! We had a review of all the self defense techniques learned throughout the course and a great workout!! Tinguinha BJJ Alaska's First State Grappling Tournament!!!
Congratulations for The Tinguinha's BJJ Team in Alaska, The Anchorage BJJ School for their great results in their first Alaska State Submission Grappling Tournament. The ABJJ Team got first place, earning 69% of the Gold medals. The tournament had a great turnout. We are very glad to see their growth and great results and be a part of that journey. Good job guys! Tinguinha BJJ Academy's Women Self Defense Workshop!!
We had a great Women's Self Defense workshop this past Saturday-October 23rd here at The Tinguinha BJJ Academy. We had Women of all ages being a part of our event and it was great fun!! USA Amateur Fight League Grappling Tournament TBJJ Team Results!!
Last weekend we had TBJJ team members Leo Imai(Blue Belt) & Albert Anaim(White Belt) compete in the USA Amateur Fight League's Grappling Tournament and they did a great job, Leo getting 1st place and Albert achieving a 3rd place position. Great Job guys! Nicely done!!

For all TBJJ students interested in competing or interested in learning the basics of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitions such as timing, rules, stratergy and more.The TBJJ competition class will be coming back in session, starting next Saturday-October 9th at 12:00pm-OPEN to ALL Belt levels. Sunday Mixed Class at The Tinguinha BJJ Academy!!
We had a great Sunday Mixed BJJ Class at The TBJJ Academy yesterday. We had Brown, Purple, Blue & White Belts in attendance. The Sundays Mixed (All Levels) Classes are a perfect way to catch up with any missed day of training and/or add to your training routine, since is a class with a smaller group it gives the students a chance to get extra attention.The Technique of the day yesterday was a Combo Attack Pendulum Sweep with Arm Bar. TBJJ Team Results at The American National Championship
We had few TBJJ Team members competing this past weekend at The American National Championship and they did a good job. We had 3 members competing and brought home 2 medals. 1 Gold and 1 Silver. Todd Spicer won all his fights garanteeing him the 1st place in his division. Awesome job!! TBJJ Brown Belt Grant Collins got second place after loosing by points at the last 30 seconds of a very technical fight. New TBJJ Purple Belt Jeff Nolasco got a chance to test the water even though he didn't get the result he wished, he lost by advantages for the champion of his division but it was a very good first run of the new belt category. Well done guys!!

Tinguinha BJJ Team BJJ Demo at The UFC GYM-Rosemead Official Grand Opening!!!
On September 18th, The UFC GYM- Rosemead had their Official Grand Opening. Professor Tinguinha is the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Program Head Instructor there and The Tinguinha BJJ Team did two great Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Demonstrations, one inside and another outside of the gym, the demonstrations included the different aspects of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu art, such as self Defense, No Gi, BJJ sport & more... and we got a lot of positive feedback. The event was great, they had the presence of UFC President Dana White and many of The UFC Top Fighters such as BJ Penn, Chuck Liddell, Vitor Belfort, Jon Bones Jones and many more, signing autographs and taking pictures. Former TBJJ student Frank Ruiz, who moved from California sometime ago in order to advance his studies sent us an e-mail with updates on how things are going at school and a nice message we would like to share with everyone. "Lots of good news in this email! I am in my 4th week of classes here at school and classes are going well. I did receive my grades from the summer and received a B+ which is great news. But the even better news! Is that because I did so well i received a 10 thousand dollar scholarship for my tuition! I just found out yesterday that I was awarded this money. I just wanted to say thank you again. Training changed my life around and motivated me to do something with my life. Competing at big tournaments and training with some of the best guys in southern California really raised my human potential. I know I've trained very hard and when I'm doing things like studying or taking an exam I believe I've pushed my self through much tougher things and that keeps me motivated." - Frank Ruiz
Last Saturday,September 11th Professor Tinguinha awarded two new TBJJ Black Belts, Justin Charon and Todd Palmer from the Tinguinha BJJ Affiliated school- The Anchorage BJJ School. Justin and Todd have been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for more than 15 years, of sweat and dedication on the mat.
" It was an honor for me to graduate these two great guys to the Black Belt. It is supposedly the goal of every BJJ practitioner to be a black belt and it is an accomplishment for those who achieve it but it is beyond submissions and attacks on the mat. It is about honor, respect, discipline, honesty and loyalty. I am confident to say Justin and Todd are true BJJ practitioners and now they have the mission to represent our martial art. I congratulate them for their accomplishment, it was well deserved. Let's keep Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu alive and strong."

Professor Tinguinha Seminar in Alaska- Great Turnout!!
Professor Tinguinha just came back from Alaska where he was at our TBJJ Affiliated school- Anchorage BJJ. The seminar had a great turnout, they had 45 students in attendance. The 3 hour seminar covered BJJ Drills, BJJ Counter attacks, BJJ combo attacks plus many more techniques. The Anchorage BJJ School have been doing extremely well in their new location. They are doing a great job spreading BJJ in Alaska. The Anchorage BJJ Academy is the biggest BJJ school in Alaska not only in facility size but in student numbers as well and now their head instructors are putting a new federation to help the growth and promotion of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu martial art in Alaska. We all from the Tinguinha BJJ Academy wish them good luck on their new venture.

TBJJ Team at The Pedro Soriano BJJ In House Tournament!!
The Tinguinha BJJ Academy Team participated in the 2nd Pedro Soriano BJJ In House Tournament last Saturday, September 11th. We had 3 members competing and they did great fighting hard and all placing medals, having TBJJ Blue Belt Leo Imai winning 1st place after 3 fights- 2 by submissions being the second fight in 12 seconds- Great job!! Tinguinha BJJ Team Croatia- World Grappling Championship Results!!
We would like to congratulate The Tinguinha BJJ Affiliated school in Croatia for their recent results at The World Grappling championship, that had the participation of 14 different countries. They did great. Having their Junior competitors fighting the Adults divisions with great results. They had 21 students from The Tinguinha BJJ Team in Croatia competiting and returned with 23 medals, being 7 Gold, 7 Silver & 9 Bronze. Great Job!! Long time Tinguinha BJJ Team member Jack Lee has just relocated to San Jose, CA. Jack had been training with us for many years and we are certainly sad to see him go but we are glad to see him growing. We hope we can see him back when possible on TBJJ mats and we would like to wish him and his family all the luck in this new step.

Batata Loop Chokes Seminar at the Tinguinha BJJ Academy!!
We had the pleasure to host a great seminar with BJJ Black Belt and Loop Chokes Specialist Sandro "Batata" at The Tinguinha BJJ Academy this past Saturday, August 21st. The seminar had a great turnout and Batata taught an arsenal of Loop Choke techniques. TBJJ Academy's purple belt Jeff Nolasco who is currently in Brazil for an intensive training camp sent us an interesting e-mail about how he is enjoying his time there and his impressions about Brazil. Below you can check the e-mail.
"Hey guys whats up. Brazil is so amazing, the food is great, training is tough, sights are wonderful, and everybody is so nice. It's so awesome I think I could definitely stay longer. Training here in Brazil can only be summed up in one word, EPIC! I am learning so much here not just techniques, but drills, exercises and intensity. Today after some Saturday training me and some of the gringos (that's what they call foreigners) hit the beach. The beach here is an experience and after 6 days of intense training, it was exactly what I needed.
Well, could keep going on and on about how awesome it is here, but to fully understand the phenomenal experience you would just have to come here and see it for yourself. This week I hope to see more than just the inside of the gym and do some tourist stuff.

Jeff Nolasco on his way to training in Brazil!!
Tinguinha BJJ Academy's purple belt and assistant instructor Jeff Nolasco is getting ready to his upcoming training trip to Brazil. Jeff will be spending 2 weeks of intensive training in Rio de Janeiro- Brazil sponsored by Brown Consulting & Construction. He will be going to the Gordo/Evolve BJJ Academy in Rio, one of the top BJJ & MMA schools in Brazil that has as head instructor Roberto "Gordo" and will be able to train BJJ & MMA at a great training camp. We wish him good luck and can't wait for his return so he can share all he learned there.
At our last Belt Promotions ceremony we had the pleasure to see moving on to the next level our most senior student David Hernandez, who got promoted to the Blue Belt. David is 57 years old and and is very committed to his training at the Tinguinha BJJ Academy and we are very glad to have him training here and seeing him progressing in this art, proving every practice that there is no age to start and to practice Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The Tinguinha BJJ Academy will be hosting a seminar with Loop chokes expert Sandro "Batata" Santiago. " Batata" is a Black Belt 3rd degree and is Roberto "Gordo" 's first Black Belt. With 19 years of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu experience, he has perfected over these years and is an expert of the loop chokes techniques and will be sharing his knowledge, covering his amazing loop chokes arsenal here at the Tinguinha BJJ Academy, Saturday- August 21st on a 2 & 1/2 hours seminar. VISITORS FROM NEW YORK AT THE TBJJ ACADEMY!!!
The Tinguinha BJJ Academy had a visit from Truman Cho and John Won who came all the way from the Renzo Gracie School in New York and made sure to stop by our school, they came to our Saturday ALL Levels class and trained with us. Thanks guys for the visit and training session.

14th Tinguinha BJJ Academy's Belt Ceremony
The Tinguinha BJJ Academy just had it's 14th edition of the Belt Promotion and Celebration, this past Saturday July 17th at The Tinguinha BJJ Academy. We had students promoted to the White-Yellow, Yellow, 5 Blue and 3 Purple Belts and Students promoted with stripes in all the belts. It was a pleasure to have the TBJJ students, their families and friends here celebrating with us. After the promotions we took our group picture and following that some of the TBJJ Students and their families headed to the Brazilian barbecue restaurant- Amazon to celebrate the TBJJ Team's accomplishments. We are very proud to announce that Professor Tinguinha was invited to take on a new role, he has been hired as the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Program Director and coordinator at the UFC Gym- Rosemead- CA. Besides directing the program, Professor Tinguinha is leading the BJJ team, teaching classes over at the UFC Gym and in an effort to coordinate a strong and technical BJJ program he is bringing part of the Tinguinha BJJ Instructors Team to teach there, Kenric Toliver, Russell Cantorna & Greg Lawson will be teaching BJJ and NoGi classes there as well. Wednesday, June 23rd Professor Tinguinha and few members of the Tinguinha BJJ Team did an all day of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu demonstrations at the UFC Gym's Open House.We had Professor Tinguinha along,TBJJ Black Belts Luis Gonzalez, Mike Brown, Kenric Toliver,Brown Belt- Russell Cantorna & Yellow Belt- Jacob Rivero demonstrating techniques inside the official UFC Octagon. It was a great chance to share our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Knowledge and philosophy.

The 5th Tinguinha BJJ In House Tournament had a great turnout. We had over 100 competitors and 12 schools being a part of the event. .The Tournament had fights in every belt levels from the white to the black belt- Kids & Adults.
We would like to thank Andreh Anderson, Alexandre Novaes & Pedro Soriano for their help as referrees, Paul LaPorte and Mike Brown for their great job as ring coordinators as well as Richard Lee and Robert Willyard for working as score keepers and fights timers. We truly appreciate it.We are very pleased as well with all the support from our team, all the coaches present, competitors and their families. The Tinguinha BJJ Academy has the pleasure to announce it's 5th In House Tournament, taking place at The Tinguinha BJJ Academy, Sunday- June 27th. It will be a Gi/Kimono Tournament and it will be open to ALL rank levels. It will be the first In House Tournament at our New and bigger location and we are glad to welcome everyone to this TBJJ event. This would be a great opportunity for students to get competition experience in a friendly enviroment and without the pressure of a big tournament's setting. We said good-bye yesterday to TBJJ Teammate Marija Sola who returned home to Croatia where she trains at the Tinguinha BJJ Affiliated school in Djakovo. Marija spent 11 days here with us training intensely with the TBJJ Team. It was a pleasure to have her over here and we hope to have her back in the future.

We had the pleasure to welcome last night at our Tuesday int./adv. class Brazilian Black Belts, Rafael "Gordinho" Correia and Almiro Barros. They are here from Singapore for the World championship of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and have been visiting the Tinguinha BJJ Academy; last night they gave us the pleasure to teach few techniques at our Tuesday night Int./Adv. Class which was OPEN to ALL Levels. We would like to thank Rafael and Almiro for the visit and the class. We hope to see them back soon.
Due the World Championship of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that is going to be taking place in Long Beach this weekend The Tinguinha BJJ Academy will be CLOSED Sunday, June 6th. We will see you back in class Monday-6-7-10. Note-

The Tinguinha BJJ Academy will be having a very special class next Tuesday, June 1st at our Tuesday Night Class. We will be having 2 Brazilian Black Belts coming from Singapore to do their final preparations for the world championship here with us, they will be here for an entire week, and Tuesday night they will be teaching a couple of techniques at our int./adv. class. The class will be a Mixed (Open to All Levels) class instead of the regular Int./Adv. Class. All TBJJ Students are welcome to come and take part of this special class!!
The TBJJ Academy will have all week, from May 29th a visitor from our affiliated school in Croatia. Marija Sola, who has been very successful in the international grappling scene and is coming here to compete in the worlds. She will take the time to train with us for the entire week. We are glad to welcome her over.

The Gordo Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil just had a major upgrade, they revamped the place and everything is looking very nice. Gordo is a top Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Instructor and has one of the most respected, world class BJJ Team including BJJ Sport as well as an MMA Fighting team. Professor Tinguinha and Gordo have a long dated friendship and his Academy in Brazil is the TBJJ Team's training location, so we would like to congratulate Gordo and his team of staff on the upgrade and their growth. This past week The Tinguinha BJJ Academy had the pleasure to welcome to our Dojo few visitors from our affiliated school in Canada, The Hamilton School of Martial Arts. We had Mickey Dimic, Mark Simon and Veltri Herc visiting us here at the TBJJ HQ in California all the way from Ontario-Canada, they were able to train and exchange with the TBJJ Team. We are glad they were able to take the time to visit the school and meet some of the TBJJ students. Hope to see them back soon.

On may 5th at the Tachi Palace Fights 4: Cinco De Mayhem, TBJJ Black Belt Luis "speedy" Gonzales fought against Ulysses Gomes, in the main fight, fighting for the championship belt. The fight went on for five rounds in a very exciting match in which Luis always controled the pace of the fight. On his feet and on the ground unfortunately the judges saw the fight in a different way and gave the fight for Ulysses by decision. Not only Luis's corner thought he won but most of the public had the same impression. Luis's camp will try to apeal the decision and ask for a rematch. We all from the TBJJ team would like to congratulate Luis, in spite of the results, for putting a good show and great fight, showing a lot of improvement from his last fight. We will be posting updates.
We've recently received a very nice e-mail from multiple times visitor Mike Bush, who has been coming to train with us every chance he is in California. We appreciate hearing that we have contribute to Mike's progress and would like to congratulate him on moving to a next level in his training!!!

TBJJ Saturday Mixed (ALL Levels) Training Session!!!
The Tinguinha BJJ Academy had an interesting Saturday Mixed (All Levels) Training Session today. We had the students practice Open Guard Passing techniques and created interesting ways to have them work all the important aspects of these techniques such as the use of the hips, legs, arms and grip. Nice, interesting training session.

We had a very nice No-Gi Training Session today at the Tinguinha BJJ Academy. As we have been doing few times per month we did a take down against striker specific training during the NoGi Class, adding NoGi take downs and more MMA directed techniques. Good Session!!!

Luis "Speedy" Gonzalez training at the TBJJ Academy!!
This past weekend, from Friday-April 23rd to Sunday- April 25th we had TBJJ Black Belt & MMA fighter Luis "Speedy" Gonzalez training at the Tinguinha BJJ Academy. Luis was in the final preparations for his upcoming fight, May 5th in Tulare- CA, Professor Tinguinha will be in his corner coaching and was glad to assist Luis on his final preparations. After a long self imposed break to grow her family, BJJ Black Belt Kris Shaw is back to the TBJJ mats and we are glad to welcome her back into training. Kris is excited to be back training and is looking forward to be back in shape and burn the babies's weight with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. We had a chance to sit down and talk with TBJJ Black Belt Mike Brown and go over his beginning in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the age of 35 and among other things, seeing the start and growth of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu art in the U.S.

This Friday, April 9th we had a visit from BJJ Black Belt Julio Echeverria and some of his students from The Batata BJJ School in Santa Cruz, they were in town for the Pan American championship of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and stopped at our school to visit and train at our Friday's NoGi training session. Thank you Julio and all the team for taking the time to visit us and train with The TBJJ Team.

TBJJ Affiliated School in Croatia 3rd World Grappling Championship Results!!
The Tinguinha BJJ Affiliated school in Croatia continue doing an outstanding job with their competition team. Last March 26th to 28th The TBJJ Croatia Team participated of the 3rd World Grappling Championship that took place in Cracow-Poland and had the participation of more than 23 countries. Our affiliated school had two members representing their team, Marija Shola and Davor Pochijak both Blue Belts. Marija got 3rd place (bronze medal) in the NoGi and 2nd place (silver medal )in the Gi/Kimono category while Davor placed 5th in the NoGi category and 2nd (silver medal) in the Gi/Kimono category. Marija, the youngest fighter of the world championship, fought a bjj blue belt fighter from Poland, a Serbian wrestler and judo black belt and a Russian judo and sambo blue belt,being praised for her technique she left with the silver and bronze medals. We are extremely proud of the TBJJ Team-Croatia's results and also of Zeljko Vukovich for doing an excellent job coaching, supporting and carrying not only the Tinguinha BJJ philosophy but the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Martial Art's.

The Pan American Championship of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will be taking place this week, from Thursday- April 8th till Sunday- April 11th. We will have some TBJJ Teammates competing. Tournament will be taking place in Irvine, at the University California Irvine. Due to the tournament The Tinguinha BJJ Academy will NOT have classes SATURDAY & SUNDAY (april 10th & 11th respectively). Last weekend, Saturday March 27th some TBJJ Academy's teammates competed in the 5th MCBJJ In House Tournament. It was the perfect setting for our students to get the competition experience on a more intimate setting. Below you can see a picture from the team at the competition and the results.

TBJJ Affiliated Schools New & Improved Locations!!
Two of the Tinguinha BJJ Affiliated schools are growing and expanding their schools to new and bigger locations.The TBJJ Affiliated school in Alaska, The ABJJ School just moved to a bigger and improved location. The new location is 4700 square feet big and once ready will include a full size cage and over 2000 square feet of BJJ mat. The ABJJ's new location will be the largest private facility in Alaska dedicated to BJJ/MMA training. The school's new address is: 113 W. Northern Lights. Suite I, Anchorange, AK 99503 (the same building as World Gym).
Another TBJJ Affiliated school, growing and improving their facility is The Speedy BJJ School, they just moved to a new location, their new address is 1350 Bardsley, Tulare, CA. With the new space they will be offering Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Gi & NoGi) and Cardio Classes.
The Tinguinha BJJ Academy is proud of both schools and their respective Instructor's Teams for putting in the work and growing bigger and stronger.

TBJJ Academy Kids Pan American Championship Results!!!
The Tinguinha BJJ Academy and TBJJ Affiliated- Speedy BJJ School and MCBJJ School's Kids competed in the 1st ever Kids Pan American Championship, that took place last Saturday, February 27th. The kids did a great job and we are very proud of the dedication and hard training they put into preparation. We would like to give special props to Jesus Gonzalez from the Speedy BJJ School for doing an outstanding job, returning with 12 medals-2 gold,4 silver and 6 bronze. Change in Kids No-Gi/MMA Classes Schedule!!
To better accomodate our kid's schedule we are moving The Kids No-Gi/MMA classes to Mondays from 5:00 to 6:00pm instead of the previous Fridays time slot. We hope this will be a better fit for the TBJJ students and future students to come. New Schedule will start Monday, March 8th. Please note that we will no longer have the class on Fridays.

Tinguinha BJJ Team Copa Pacifica Tournament's Results!!!
The Tinguinha BJJ Academy's Competition Team just participated in The Copa Pacifica Tournament that took place last Saturday and Sunday, February 21st and 22nd. It was a good warm up for the upcoming tournaments.

Tinguinha Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the College!!!
Last Tuesday, February 9th the Tinguinha BJJ Academy Black Belt Team, Professor Tinguinha, Mike Brown and Kenric Toliver did a BJJ demonstration at The Westwood College for some of The Criminal Law Course students. They went through what is The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Martial Art and the several benefits of training BJJ and were able to demonstrate a few techniques as well. We were glad to be able to be of service to the Anaheim Community by sharing a little bit of our Martial Art. We would like to thank Westwood College Student Services for inviting Professor Tinguinha and being open to bring Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to a broader audience. Tinguinha BJJ Academy Sunday Class NEW Information!!
The Tinguinha BJJ Academy Sunday Mixed (All Levels) Class as prior scheduled will be switching to NOGI (All Levels) Classes starting this upcoming Sunday- February 7th. As set before Sundays classes will have the following schedule- 3 months of Gi classes followed by 3 months of No-Gi classes. This will give one more option for our TBJJ Students to open their game and improve their NO-Gi game. So mark your calendars and come train!!

Tinguinha BJJ Academy Competition Class!!!
This past Saturday, January 30th we had our 1st Competition Class of the season. It was really good training.We were able to record the training for The TBJJ.TV online training website as well as get footage of some of The TBJJ Competition Team who are getting ready for the upcoming competition season. Next Saturday we should have few visitors to increase our training level and make our preparation even better.
We had a great training session at our TBJJ Academy Saturday Mixed Class that took place Saturday, January 30th. We had a full house on the mats, from white to black belts all training together in perfect integration between all belts. Great session and great chance for the team to get the max out of their training.
The Tinguinha BJJ Academy Competition Class is returning to it's regular time to start preparing The Tinguinha BJJ Team for the upcoming season of competitions. All students interested in getting ready to compete or who simply would like to train at a different style and pace and learn more about the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu sport, such as rules, points, timing and more, can come and take our competition class.
The Competition Classes Will Start next SATURDAY, January 30th at 12:00pm

TBJJ Academy Plans & Upcoming Events for The NEW YEAR!!!
The Tinguinha BJJ Academy has many different plans for 2010, hoping to keep progressing and offering quality BJJ Instruction as well as bringing different ways to add to that knowledge path. This year we will be having Two TBJJ In House Tournaments, which is a great way to give our students the experience of fighting a tournament without the pressures of a big tournament setting, as well as being a way to warm up and prepare for the bigger tournaments, we will also be taking advantage of the bigger mat space of our school's new location. We will be doing a Gi and NoGi In House Tournaments this year, separated into 2 events. This year we are also planning to have at our school a Women Self Defense Workshop among other events along the year.
We are looking forward to accomplish different projects at our school this year and to improve your TBJJ training experience.

Tinguinha BJJ OPen House Event with Workshop,BJJ Exhibition,Belt Promotion & Celebration!!!
This past Saturday, December 12th The Tinguinha BJJ Academy had our OPEN HOUSE Event. The event was great,we got over 100 people present, even being one of the most rainy days of this year in California,a lot of people came to support and celebrate with us. We had many things scheduled and we were able to accomplish it all, a wonderful day with the TBJJ Family and extended family!!! We started the day with a BJJ Workshop, the mat was full, students from the white to the black belt , kids and adults, with 6 BJJ Black Belts teaching 7 of their favorite techniques, for a full hour of BJJ, all for FREE, an unique opportunity for all present. Following we had a BJJ Exhibition showing different aspects of the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. We had Professor Tinguinha and TBJJ Teammates,Daniel Gonzalez & Greg Lawson demonstrating Self Defense Techniques, TBJJ Black Belt Kenric Toliver demonstration the BJJ Take Downs with Greg Lawson, 6 year old Brisa Mariano demonstrating self defense techniques with her father, Professor Tinguinha, BJJ Black Belt Marcelo Cavalcanti, demonstrating BJJ Sport techniques with his student, 2 times Kids World Champion Christian Luu and TBJJ Kids MMA Instructor Jeff Nolasco demonstrating MMA-BJJ Techniques with TBJJ Student Jacob Rivero. After that we presented Daniel Gonzalez with the student of the year award and Alex Orozco with the Kids Program Student of the Year we also presented TBJJ long time students, that have been training at the Academy since the beginning,Mike Brown, Mike Shen, Vince Quitugua, Chris Gutierrez,Grant Collins and Kenric Toliver, with an appreciation award for their loyalty and support, and we also presented appreciation awards for TBJJ representative Marcelo Cavalcanti, TBJJ Affiliated School Instructors Luis and Jesus Gonzalez and Fightlife,INC. for all the support given to our school. We had the presence of TBJJ Black Belts Mike Brown and Kenric Toliver and invited BJJ Black Belts, Marcelo Cavalcanti, Paulo Guillobel, Mafu, Kazeka Muniz and Brown Belt Pedro Soriano, sharing a little of their knowledge with us. The Belt Promotions followed shortly after, we had kids promotions and for the adults we had 5 blue ,1 purple and 1 brown belts being promoted and stripes promotions in all belts. The black belts had some words after that, talking a little about their own path in training and what BJJ means to them. We concluded the day with the Team's Group Picture and Celebrated with food and drinks. We would like to thank all the students who came to celebrate with us, all the families and friends present, all the invited Black Belts specially the BJJ Blacks who taught at our workshop for taking the time to share their knowledge with the TBJJ team and supporting our school. We appreciate it!!

Black Belts FREE Workshop- 2 days 2 go!!!
We are Only two days away from The Tinguinha BJJ Academy Open House Event.
Here is the event's complete schedule and information:
Starting at 9:30 am- Tinguinha and invited Black Belts will be teaching an 1 hour workshop with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Techniques- Gi and No-Gi. We have confirmed at least 5 Black Belts that will be teaching their favorite BJJ techniques.
BJJ Exhibition and Belt Promotion: 11:00am
We will have Professor Tinguinha, Invited Black Belts and TBJJ Instructors and Students demonstrating BJJ Self Defense, BJJ Sport, BJJ-NoGi and MMA Techniques.
Belt Promotion Ceremony will follow soon after- We will have Black Belt Guests coming to honor and celebrate with us the progress of the TBJJ Students and our new location. We are going to have TBJJ students receiving stripes and being promoted to the yellow, blue, purple and brown belts. Besides that we will be presenting the student of the year award and appreciation awards.
We will then close the event with some words from the invited Black Belts, sharing a little of their knowledge and after we will be taking our group picture and celebrating with food and drinks.

Tinguinha BJJ team in Croatia outstanding performance!!!!!!!!!
Our tbjj team- bjj clube triangulo in Croatia just got back from 2 competitions in the last 10 days. The first was the 2nd Croatian Grappling Championship- 2009. The Tinguinha BJJ Team- Croatia won 73 medals (42 golden, 13 silver and 18 bronze) and the 2nd competition that took place after that, was in Budapest, the capital city of Hungary, on the 1st Hungarian Grappling Open Championshi,.and they won 17 medals (5 golden, 4 silver and 8 bronze) in No-Gi and Gi categories.

Tinguinha's Seminar at the Speedy BJJ Pictures!!!
Professor Tinguinha visited the TBJJ Affiliated School, The Speedy BJJ School in Tulare- CA last weekend. He went with a few TBJJ Teammates- Kenric Toliver, Frank Ruiz, Luis Reyes and Jeff Nolasco, who went to help on Luis's MMA fight preparation. They had a great MMA training session Friday night with Luis Gonzalez and Saturday Professor Tinguinha taught a seminar at Luis's school (Speedy BJJ School) and was present for a belt promotion of some Speedy BJJ Students. We would like to thank Luis and Jesus Gonzalez, all students attending the seminar and the TBJJ teammates that came along with Tinguinha. Below are a few pictures of the trip.

"Soca" is a long time friend and training partner of Professor Tinguinha and a multiple titles winner in BJJ Competitions. Professor "Tinguinha" just returned from a quick trip to Alaska where he went to visit the TBJJ Affililiated school in Anchorage- The ABJJ School and to teach a seminar. The school is going in full speed, they have a lot of new students and the seminar had over 30 people in attendance. Before the seminar professor "Tinguinha" tested and promoted Ryder "monster" to the brown belt and Justin Charon and Todd Palmer to their 4th stripe on their brown belts. Congratulations guys on the well deserved promotions. We will probably be seeing the Alaska boys back in California in March for the Pan Ams 2010. Tinguinha BJJ Academy New Classes & Programs!!!!!
Starting on this upcoming month of October The Tinguinha BJJ Academy will be updating and improving our classes and programs by bringing NEW classes and additions to existing programs. Below you can check more information about the NEW classes and programs. - NO-GI Classes Open to All Levels
We will be adding one more day of No-Gi classes and the program has been redesigned in order to englobe techniques for ALL LEVEL students- From White to Black belts (Beginners to Advance).
- Sunday Mixed (All Levels) Class
This class wil be one more option for students with a tighter weekly schedule. It will be seasonal- going 3 months with Gi and the following 3 months No-GI and so forth and is going to be OPEN for ALL Levels. (Class will start with the GI).

-Juniors- NoGi/MMA Class- Mat Area #2
- New Age Group Class (CLASS IS FORMING NOW- Age 7 & Under)
-Extra Day of Class Added
We are adding a new class on a new day. To expose the kids to another side of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu art we are adding a BJJ/MMA class (mat area #2),to sharpen their grappling skills and teach another aspect of BJJ, in a new day to offer the option for those with tighter schedule. We will also be opening for the first time, a NEW age group class program, for the younger BJJ athletes who wants to learn the art as well. This class will be OPEN for Kids 7 years of age and under (Classes are Forming NOW).

The Tinguinha BJJ Academy renewed and added additional classes to the program, transforming it into a 4 days class program and adding a Cardio-Kickboxing class emphasizing in the workout aspect of this modality. Besides all the changes and additions to this great program, we will be offering an Open Gym- Free Punching Bag time, for Muay Thai students who would like to practice or relieve stress.

The Tinguinha BJJ Academy recently had a visit from two students from New Zeland, Lee and Michael, who spent a few days training here with us. Last week they fought a tournament back home with their Tinguinha BJJ Gis, Lee getting 1st place and Michael 2nd. They sent news from the competition and a few pictures. The Tinguinha BJJ Academy would like to congratulate and thank both for representing. It's always nice to see our flag over the world. We hope to have them back visiting soon. Tinguinha BJJ Academy New Location's FIRST CLASS!!!
The Tinguinha BJJ Academy opened the doors for our first classes at our brand new location. We had big classes and everyone in attendance was happy with the new school. Tinguinha BJJ NEW Location all set up and ready!!
The Tinguinha BJJ academy is happy and proud to announce we have completed the improvements and remodeling and are completely moved to our brand new location.
We are moving into a bigger space and better location, we thank you all for your patience and understanding for the last 3 days without classes. But we are now ready to open our doors and very excited to start our classes here.

Tinguinha BJJ Teammates Results at The National Championship of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu!!!
We had some TBJJ students fighting at The National Championship of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that took place in Carson last weekend, September 12th and 13th. Even though we did not have a big team competing we had Daniel Gonzalez along with Frank Ruiz getting third place in their respective belt and weight categories and Jeff Nolasco doing a nice job on his matches as well, so congrats to all students competing. We would like to thank TBJJ instructor Kenric Toliver for the support, coaching at the tournament. Below you can find a picture from the competition and results.

SCHOOL CLOSED AND NEW LOCATION MOVING DATE!!!
Due to moving set up and mats relocation The Tinguinha BJJ Academy will be CLOSED Thursday, september 10th, Friday, September 11th & Saturday, September 12th. We apologize for the short notice, things moved faster than we thought and we will be moving the main mats and final things in the next few days. We count with your understanding and can assure that we are working to offer a better space for our classes.
Our new location is on the same street- La Palma but going east, here is the address- 22349 La Palma Ave. Suite #118- Yorba Linda- CA 92887. We will start the classes at the NEW LOCATION on the same schedule Monday, September 14th.

As we announced in our last Belt Ceremony The Tinguinha BJJ Academy will be moving next month to a brand new, bigger and better location. The new site is still going through some remodeling and construction so we can offer more to our TBJJ Members.We just got new mats delivered and are setting everything up to look the best possible. We are very excited about our new school and hope everyone will enjoy as much as us. Below are a few pictures from last week. We will be posting new developments from this week later. Since we are working on delivering the best possible facility we don't have the date of the move yet but as soon as the date is set we will be letting everyone know.
While on vacation through Seattle, Tinguinha BJJ student Raymond Quinto kept us in mind while visiting Bruce and Brandon Lee's headstones he made a little tribute to us and e-mailed us the picture and words below.We would like to thank Raymond. We hope to see him soon.

Due to being away on vacation during our Belt Ceremony that took place in July, Tinguinha BJJ student Scott Walters was promoted this week to the Blue Belt at last. We would like to congratulate him in the accomplishment and hard work.
The Tinguinha BJJ Academy just had two students taking advantage of our visitor's program and coming to visit and train at our school with The TBJJ Team this past week. We had Oscar Jimenez coming from San Francisco for one session and we had Matthew Bernier who came from Denver and trained at two of our classes. It is always nice to have visitors at our school and we hope they enjoyed training with us and will be back soon.

TBJJ Academy Trip to Brazil Pictures & Trip overview!!!
Part of The Tinguinha BJJ Team, including Professor "Tinguinha", Kenric Toliver, Frank Ruiz, Marcelo Cavalcanti, Alex Uzeta (from The MCBJJ School), Luis Gonzalez, Jesus Gonzalez & Josh Bowling (from the Speedy Gonzalez/TBJJ Team- Visalia) just came back from a wonderful trip to Brazil where they went to compete in the Rio International Open Tournament and to train and sightsee as well. Everyone on the team competed and we brought home 4 medals- 2 gold & 2 silver. They were able to train at 3 different BJJ Academies in Rio, The Gordo BJJ Academy (main school), The Gordo BJJ School in Novo Leblon with Professor Rabico and The UM2 school with Professor Paulo de Tarso and Rafael Capoeira . We would like to thank all the schools for receiving us so well and for the great hospitality. While there they were also able to experience different sightseeing places including being at a soccer game in the famous Maracana stadium, beautiful beaches and famous views and experience the Rio de Janeiro nightlife. It was a very nice experience for the team to train and have some fun together in such a beautiful city.
We look forward to doing this trip next year and we would like to thank our instructors Mike Brown, Chris Gutierrez, John Vitasa and Jeff Nolasco and TBJJ Staff member Livia Mariano for keeping the school running strong and well while our main instructor was out.

Tinguinha BJJ Academy Rio International Tournament Trip!!!

Tinguinha BJJ Academy 12th Belt Ceremony & Celebration!!!
The Tinguinha BJJ Academy's 12th Belt Ceremony took place this past weekend, Saturday-Jul. 18th at The Tinguinha BJJ Academy. We had a very smooth and nice ceremony and got a lot of students promoted to the Blue Belts, 2 Purple belts, plus 2 Brown Belts. Besides all the students promoted with stripes. Afterwards a group of TBJJ Members met at The Amazon Brazilian BBQ restaurant to continue celebrating. Tinguinha BJJ Affiliated school in Croatia latest tournament's results!!
The TBJJ Affiliated school in Croatia- The Triangle BJJ Klub, just competed last weekend in the Swiss Grappling Open 2009 in Swiss and one more time the team had a great performance bringing back 7 medals. MC Brazilian Jiu Jitsu In House Tournament Results & Pictures
Last Saturday, June 20th The Tinguinha BJJ Academy had some of our team participate in The MC Brazilian Jiu Jitsu In House Tournament. We had few students competing and got 5 medals for 1st place and 1 for a 2nd place. It was a good opportunity for some of the TBJJ competition team to compete in a very friendly atmosphere and without the pressures of big competition's set. There were four schools competing. Besides Professor "Tinguinha" we had TBJJ Instructor Kenric Toliver and Assistant Instructor Russell Cantorna there, helping to coach our team and supporting the tournament. Black Belt Training at The Tinguinha BJJ Academy!!
On our last Friday morning class The Tinguinha BJJ Academy had the pleasure to have a great Black Belt training at our school. We had three Black Belts visiting from San Francisco, here for the World Championship which is happening this weekend. The training had the presence of TBJJ Team Members Marcelo Cavalcanti, Kenric Toliver, Mike Brown, Professor Tinguinha and Visiting Black Belts Sandro "Batata", Julio Echeverria and Leonardo "Gloglo" Seixas along with the attending TBJJ students and a few students from the Sandro Batata BJJ School. It was a very good training session and a great opportunity for the TBJJ students to train with and watch all those Black Belts in action. Below are a few pictures from the training session.

Professor Tinguinha Croatia Seminar Pictures!!!
Professor Tinguinha just got back from a quick trip to Croatia to teach a seminar at bjj triangle club- an affiliated scholl of the Tinguinha BJJ Academy located in the city of Dakovo in Croatia. The seminar had a great turn out. Iit was a 2 days seminar. Day one- was just for the kids from 6 to 10 years of age and on Day 2- the seminar was directed to teens and adults. Besides all the students from the triangle bjj club who attended the seminar we had students from 2 differents cities in croatia and people from different countries in Europe attending the seminar. Professor Tinguinha would like to thank everyone that came to the seminar and thank the very warm hospitality from all the students from the triangle bjj club he had a great time he would also like to say special thanks for the instructor of the triangle bjj club mr. Zeljko Vukovic who is doing a very positive and outstanding job specially with the kids at his club we are really happy to have mr. Tinguinha BJJ Academy Techniques feature- May 2009
This Month of May The Tinguinha BJJ Academy brings two new techniques to our techniques feature of our website. This time we have TBJJ Instructor and Black Belt- Kenric Toliver, who have been training BJJ for over 10 years and is part of our TBJJ Family and Staff Team. Kenric will be teaching Cross Guard Techniques with the assistance of TBJJ Teammate, purple belt Russell Cantorna.
Due to the Memorial Day Holiday The Tinguinha BJJ Academy will ONLY have the Morning Class (intermediate/Advance- 10:30 am to 12:00) on Monday- May, 25th 2009. There will be NO CLASS MONDAY( 5/25) NIGHT!!
We will return to regular schedule Tuesday, May 26th.

After a very successful seminar tour in South Asia, Professor "Tinguinha" is back with many experiences from the trip to share with us. "It was a great experience. I had a great welcome and hospitality in all the places I passed by. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu martial art is still new and growing in South Asia but I was glad to see their will to learn BJJ, in all the schools I passed the instructors had a great attitude and are conducing BJJ in the right direction, in a positive and respectful way. It was very nice to meet all these people from different countries and cultures but most of all it was very special to see we all share the love for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I know it is just a matter of time for BJJ in South Asia to be getting big. I hope my visit to South Asia even though quick will contribute positively for the BJJ Growth there. I would like to thank all the students attending the seminars and thank Luke, Adam, Phil in Thailand, Alvin Aguillar, Christopher, and Cavalo in the Philippines, Danny and Quinton in Hong Kong and Rafael "Gordinho" and Chatri in Singapore for hosting the seminars. And thanks to the black belts Daniel and Makoto for attending and supporting the seminar!!!! Competition Class BACK on Schedule for World Championship!!!

Professor "Tinguinha" is already on the last stop of his seminar tour in South Asia. He is currently in Singapore and has really enjoyed all the places he was able to visit.The trip went well and all the seminars have been great so far. Everyone has been very welcoming. It's been an amazing experience and even though Professor "Tinguinha" has enjoyed being able to teach in all the different schools, he is looking forward to be back to The Tinguinha BJJ Academy and share it all with The TBJJ Team. Pan American championship- tinguinha bjj team results
We at the Tinguinha BJJ Academy would like to congratulate all the TBJJ Competition team for the effort and dedication and for representing well our Academy. Our team brought home 8 medals- 3 golds, 3 silvers and 2 bronzes. We would like to say thank you to our TBJJ Associated academies. They came together and unified our team to represent with a lot of dedication and loyalty. Special thanks for the Anchorage BJJ in Alaska they came a long way from home and had an impressive performance in the tournament. Tinguinha bjj team Croacia on bjj open tournament!!!!!!!!!!
The TBJJ Team in Croatia had one more time a very impressive performance, this time on the bjj open tournament in Donji Miholjac (a town in Croatia). The tinguinha BJJ Croatia team had 48 fighters representing the team and brought home 34 medals- 9 gold , 8 silver and 17 bronze.The team got a cup of the tournament for being the most successful team. Congratulations for all the team! we here at the TBJJ Academy are proud and happy for the accomplishment!
This Thursday night we had the visit from Team Maguila in Maryland. Five fighters that are here from Maryland to fight the Pan American Championship came to the Tinguinha BJJ Academy to visit and train. It was a pleasure to have them come and visit us and we wish them good luck at the tournament.

Tinguinha BJJ Team Alaska visit to The TBJJ Academy!!
The TBJJ Alaska team just arrived in California where they are coming for the Pan American championship and stopped at the Tinguinha BJJ Headquarter for the final preparation to the championship. The Anchorange BJJ School's instructors Justin Charon, Todd Palmer and Ryder Spadafore arrived earlier this week to spend an intensive week of training and five fighters from their Competition team arrived Wednesday to do a final preparation for the upcoming competition. The TBJJ Team Alaska is ready to GO!!!

Due to the Pan American Tournament the Tinguinha BJJ Academy Will NOT have Classes Friday March, 27th and Saturday March, 28th.
The Tinguinha BJJ Academy will be having a big team of students competing coming from The Tinguinha BJJ Headquarter in California and The TBJJ Affiliated schools as well. 28 all together competing- 10 White belts, 13 Blue Belts, 4 Purple Belts and 1 Brown Belt.

Long Time TBJJ Student Wayne Matanane had his last training session at our Academy last Thursday March, 19th. Wayne who has trained at the Tinguinha BJJ Academy for many years, fully representing our school and being a true teamplayer is now returning to his homeland of Guam. His farewell class was a special training session. At the end of the class all the students present lined up to have a last train with Wayne and he trained with each and every student including the two Black Belts present, Professor "Tinguinha" and Kenric Toliver . We will certainly miss Wayne here at The Tinguinha BJJ Academy but we wish him all the best and hope to see him back to visit us soon.

The Tinguinha BJJ Academy had the pleasure to welcome a visitor from Texas through our Visitors Program, Nathaniel Corona, a green belt who has been training BJJ for many years and learned about Professor "Tinguinha" through his dvds. Nathaniel was able to come to train in our group classes and add to his BJJ learning by taking private classes with Professor "tinguinha" here at The Tinguinha BJJ Academy last weekend March 13th and 14th. TBJJ Croatia Competition Team great results at Grappling Tournament
The Tinguinha BJJ Academy would like to congratulate the Tinguinha BJJ Association in Croatia- Competition Team for their great performance at a Grappling Tournament that took place in Zagreb this month. The Croatia TBJJ team had 33 students competing and took home 26 medals- 12 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze. Getting also best team-1st place in the tournament. Tinguinha BJJ Academy Copa Pacifica Tournament- Results!!
The Tinguinha BJJ Academy just participated of the Copa Pacifica tournament that took place last weekend- Feb. 28th and the team did good. We had a couple of white belts fighting their first tournament and they went on to win their first two matches being stopped on the third one. In the Kids category we had TBJJ Junior program's student Jacob Rivero going on to win all his three fights by submission.And TBJJ White Belt Emil Nguyen getting second place. The tournament was a warm up for the upcoming Pan American championship and the Tinguinha BJJ Academy will be coming with quite a few competitors and the Copa was a good way to prepare for the next challenge. Wayne was able to train for a month with us taking advantage of The Tinguinha BJJ Academy's Visitors Program. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Grand Master Helio Gracie Passes Away.
Today January, 29th 2009, The art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu that we all share and love lost one of it's founders and creators, Grand Master Helio Gracie, who passed away at the age of 95. He was a martial arts icon and a pioneer. Teaching and sharing the art of Brazilian Jiu jitsu all over the world. We are sure his spirit will live in the hearts of all BJJ lovers and practitioners.
The Tinguinha BJJ Academy leaves here an homage to a BJJ inovator and our gratitude for all he has done for this increadible and noble art .
Our hearts go out to his family.
He will be truly missed.
TBJJ Student Anthony Zaragoza was the only representative from our school competing at the latest Gracie Nationals Tournament that took place in Los Angeles, Jan. 24th and he did a great job. Anthony had three fights finishing all three with submissions and getting first place in his category. The Tinguinha BJJ Academy would like to congratulate Anthony for his performance and for representing the School at the competition.
The Tinguinha BJJ Academy Visitors Program had another visitor This time TBJJ Affiliated school's student Josh Bowling who was visiting from our Affiliated school in Visalia- CA- The "Speedy" BJJ school,Josh drove 3 hours and 30 min. to train with us. The Tinguinha BJJ Academy would like to announce a new addition to our team- the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Klub Triangle in the city of Djakovo, CROATIA. The BJJ club Triangle has as their instructor mr. We would like to start 2009 with a great story we would like to share with the tinguinha bjj academy team from a very brave young boy who is a practitioner of the brazilian jiu-jitsu art. We hope to inspire everyone and give the New Year a nice jumpstart. Check the story below.
"BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A 9-year-old Bakersfield boy is being called a hero after he saved a girl and her dog from a pit bull attack.
Drew Heredia said he and a friend were walking a small dog Dec. 30 when a pit bull jumped on the dog. The unidentified 12-year-old girl reportedly tried to save her dog, prompting the pit bull to turn on her.
Heredia said he jumped on the pit bull and applied a choke hold that he learned while taking classes at a Brazilian jujitsu studio in southwest Bakersfield.
"It was kind of a heart-pounding moment," Heredia said. "It was very scary."
He said he held the dog for 20 minutes until an animal control officer arrived.
“At first, I wanted to kick it, but then I thought it’s not a good idea, because it could get my leg,” Heredia said.
The girl was taken to Mercy Southwest Hospital where she was treated for puncture wounds.
The pit bull was quarantined at the animal control office, where it will be euthanized after 10 days. No one has claimed the dog.
The girl's dog was injured, but it's expected to survive. The dog ran away during the attack but returned home Friday afternoon."

The Tinguinha BJJ Associations are an extension of the Tinguinha BJJ Academy's head quarter in Anaheim- California which has as a mission to bring the knowledge of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to schools all over the Globe. Due to the holidays The Tinguinha BJJ Academy will be taking a break to concentrate on renewing the energy to progress through the new year so we wish that you guys enjoy quality time with friends and family and rest to come back stronger and renewed. The Tinguinha BJJ Academy just received all the new products that we were waiting for. Two new Gis, two new T-shirts, a New Rash Guard and a new woven label chest patch, all available for sale at our school's store and soon at our online store.

Tinguinha BJJ Academy 11th Belt Ceremony!!!
Last Saturday, December 6th We had our 11th Belt Ceremony and The end of the year Celebration at The Tinguinha BJJ Academy. We had 20 new belt promotions-12 blue belts, 5 purple belts, 2 brown belts and 1 black beltand 91 students were promoted with stripes. It was very nice to have everybody together with their families and friends celebrating the progress of their peers and a year of accomplishments on the mat and moving on to a next level in their training.It is very nice to be able to grow together and learn as a team.We had the presence of 8 BJJ Black BeltsMauricio "tinguinha", Marcelo Cavalcanti ,Mike Brown, Luis Gonzales, Kris Shaw, Andreh Anderson, Daniel T Cruz and Jeremy Geaga, that were able to give their testimonials on what Brazilian JiuJitsu and the Black Belt mean to them. It was one of our most emotionals ceremony, Tinguinha BJJ Academy's long time student Kenric Toliver was promoted with the Black Belt and all the school stood up applauding the moment which we shared with his family as well, The Black Belt is the higher belt in Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu and it is a long road till that moment and that makes each level of accomplishment rewarding and special even more the highest rank. Professor "tinguinha" was honored by surprise by Alex Orozco and all the kids from the TBJJ Academy with a plaque of appreciation. We also nominated Jeff Nolasco student of the year for 2008, for his attendance and dedication to the school and presented Tom Hoang with an appreciation award on for his dedication and support to the growth of our school by creating a bridge between The Tinguinha BJJ Academy and the Anaheim law enforcement agency, bringing so many students from that field. At the end of the ceremony we also had Professor "Tinguinha" award 4 black belts with degrees- Mike Brown, Luis Gonzales, Kris Shaw and Marcelo Cavalcanti for their years as Black Belts. We at The Tinguinha BJJ Academy would like to thank all the students and their families for attending the ceremony and as always supporting the school and the TBJJ team. We apreciate it!! Thank you also for all the Black Belts present for attending the celebration, supporting the school and for their kind words regarding the TBJJ team, for Scott Petersen for coming all the way from South Dakota and Shelli Hemerson for making the day even more special by presenting each kid and the Kids Instructors with a collage of their pictures and all the Luis "speedy" Gonzales students for coming from far to attend the ceremony.
