NoGi World Championship- TBJJ Results

The Tinguinha BJJ Academy had 4 students competing in the World Nogi Championship that happened last weekend August 9th and 10th in Carson- CA. Four students competed and brought back four medals representing the team well. Congratulations!!!

TBJJ Academy Competition Class

After a much deserved break The Tinguinha BJJ Academy 's competition Class will be back on. In order to get ready for The National Championship of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu happening September 20th and 21st among other tournaments coming soon The Competition Class is starting again Saturday August,23rd from 12:00 to 1:00pm. The Saturday Mixed class will be happening from 11:00 am till 12:00pm.

Tinguinha BJJ Academy 10th Belt Ceremony!!!!!!

The Tinguinha BJJ Academy 10th Belt Ceremony took place last Saturday, July 19th at The Tinguinha BJJ Academy. We had family and friends of the TBJJ Students attending which made the celebration even more special. We had students promoted to the yellow, blue, purple and brown belts, besides students being promoted with stripes in all belts. We also had the presence off a few students from our affiliated school in Exeter that were promoted as well. It is always very nice to have all of the TBJJ Family gathered to celebrate theirs and their teammates progresses and getting together to strengthen their bond and camaraderie. We would like to thank all the students, their friends and families for coming and for supporting the Tinguinha BJJ Academy. We truly apreciate it. It is very reassuring and fuels the school to keep working towards growth, integrity and the quality of instruction. THANK YOU!!

Luis Gonzalez Wins in his MMA Fight one more time!!

TBJJ Academy Black Belt Luis "Speedy" Gonzalez wins one more time, stepping up a notch in his second MMA fight. Luis fought last Thursday, June 26th at The Palace Fighting Championship in Lemoore, CA. His performance was outstanding geting a victory by knockout in the first round. The Tinguinha BJJ Academy would like to congratulate Luis for the achievement.

Hanford’s Gonzalez scores 1st-round knockout in MMA matchup

 LEMOORE -- Luis Gonzalez continues to prove he isn't a one dimensional mixed martial artist. The Hanford fighter known mostly as a world-class jiu jitsu player improved to 2-0 with a knockout victory over Los Angeles flyweight Maurice Eazel (3-9) on Thursday in a Palace Fighting Championship special feature at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino's night of boxing.

"He wanted to stand and he was pretty scrappy," said Gonzalez, who stopped the fight with a right hand in the first round. "I knew he was a good wrestler, so I thought that he would shoot in and try and take me down."

But Eazel opted to try and stand with Gonzalez.

"I felt pretty confident out there. I was kind of surprised that he didn't shoot in," Gonzalez said. "When we did go to the ground, I just used my jiu jitsu to get to my feet."

In the other MMA bout at the Palace on Thursday night, Reno featherweight Leland Gridley (3-2) won by split decision over Las Vegas' David Smith (4-2).

4th Tinguinha BJJ Academy In House Tournament Results and Pictures!!

Last Saturday, June 21st The Tinguinha BJJ Academy had it's 4th In House Tournament with the presence of 6 Black Belts,including Marcelo Cavalcanti, Wander Braga, Paulo Guillobel, Rommel Dunbar, Mike Brown and Jeremy Geaga, Invited Schools and TBJJ Affiliated Schools. It turned out very nice with that camaraderie feel to it. It was a good opportunity for the students to compete but in a nice and friendly enviroment and without the pressures of the bigger tournaments. The Tinguinha BJJ Academy would like to thank all the schools present The Wander Braga BJJ school, The MC Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, The Gracie Barra- Culver City, The United BJJ School, The Guillobel BJJ School, The Pedro Soriano BJJ School , The Samurai Dojo,and their Instructors for their presence and support and we would also like to thank all the competitors for coming and for all the support from our team specially Mike Brown, Zack Rapadas, PJ Corona, David Leon, Chris Gutierrez and Marcelo Cavalcanti. TBJJ Academy Affiliated Schools Instructors Visit!!!

The Tinguinha BJJ Academy just had the visit of two of our affiliated schools instructors. Justin Charon came from The TBJJ Affiliate in Alaska, The Anchorage BJJ School and spent a week training with us and updating his knowledge with The TBJJ Team and Phil Denzau came from Thailand and was at our school for two days to review and renew his techniques with Professor "Tinguinha". It was great to have them both visiting and training with us.

Professor "Tinguinha" honored at The World Championship of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Professor Mauricio "Tinguinha" was presented in the last World Championship of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu that took place June 5th to 8th in theCalifornia State University Long Beach with a rank certificate from The International Federation of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu recognizing his accomplishments and his rank,This is the first group of IBJJF certified Black Belts. It was a great celebration, gathering Black Belts from all over the US and Brazil among Renzo Gracie, Royler Gracie and others and honoring all those Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Professors. We are happy with one more recognition and grateful for the honor to our Professor.

The Tinguinha BJJ Academy's team competed last weekend in The World Championship of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu that took place in Long Beach- CA
Even though we had a small team competing, the team did good, being that is such a competitive championship and we brought home a Silver and Bronze medals through TBJJ student Louie Cerqua and TBJJ Affiliated school- MC Brazilian Jiu Jitsu student Kayti Quesada. Luis "Speedy" Gonzalez upcoming MMA Fight!!!!

TBJJ Academy Black Belt Luis "Speedy" Gonzalez is getting ready to get in the ring one more time for the upcoming PFC MMA event taking place March, 19th in Lemore- CA. Luis is training hard and completely dedicated to his upcoming fight.

Below is an article from the press conference for Luis's upcoming fight:

Fans learned something about Gonzalez in October — that he isn’t just a world-class jiu-jitsu player. He defeated Josh Beasnette by technical knockout in just 43 seconds of round one.

“Luis Gonzales was viewed as more of a sport jiu-jitsu guy, you know black belt, done great at the Mundials, but in his pro debut against Josh Beasnette he came out like a little buzz saw,” Printup said. “Bubby Mitchell, though, is a well versed freestyle fighter. He trains with Cole and Micah Miller and he is a very game guy. The winner of this fight is poised to compete for the PFC belt down the road.”

Gonzalez has continued to sharpen his standup skills and is excited about the growth of the flyweight division.


Mitchell might be the most well rounded of the four fighters. He started wrestling at just 5-years-old and has been training MMA for six years.

“I’m so stoked about the 125-pound division and also the PFC as well. You put those two together and dynamite. Finally, an opportunity on this side of the world for the lighter weights. People will see, it makes an exciting fight and hopefully we will be here to stay. I will forever be loyal to the PFC due to this,” Mitchell said.

Gonzalez admits he still has some homework to do on Mitchell.

“I don’t know too much about him,” Gonzalez said. “I k now he is a great wrestler, but I still need to do some more homework on him. Right now I’ve just been training hard and preparing myself.”

Mitchell knows what to expect from Gonzalez, though.

“I know he is a black belt and I know he was a runner up at the Mundials. That’s about it. I watched his debut fight and give him props for entering the MMA game. I make up with my lack of a black belt with my experience in MMA in general and vise versa to him. Wrestling and conditioning will be key in this fight,” Mitchell said.

“Fans can generally expect pace pushing and non stop moving on my part. I don’t sit still long, in and out of the ring. I don’t think many 125 pounders do. I like to throw my hands on the feet or on the ground. I’m a wrestler by nature so I mix the two quite a bit.”

PFC 7’s two flyweight fights are just the tip of the iceberg of the flyweight division in the PFC.

“I foresee the PFC’s flyweight division eventually featuring the absolute best talent possible in the world from top to bottom and I’m confident we’re off to a great start,” Printup said.

The weighins will be held at the Den Sports bar on Wednesday, March 19th at 5 p.m. Fans are encouraged to attend.

Professor Tinguinha just came back from a trip to Brazil where he went to visit his family and spend time on the mat refreshing the knowledge. He went to The Roberto "Gordo" BJJ School, Master Roberto "Gordo" is one of the most renown BJJ Black Belts and besides having his own school, he is the BJJ Coach of the new MMA Team, The Gracie Fusion. Tinguinha BJJ Academy 9th Belt ceremony!!!!

The Tinguinha BJJ Academy just celebrated its 9th Belt Ceremony last Saturday, December 8th. We had students being promoted to the Blue, Purple and Brown Belts besides students promoted with Stripes. We presented Tinguinha BJJ students with Apreciation Awards for their contributions along the year to the growth of our school, Lou Smith for training The TBJJ Students through his unique fitness and training System, John Vitasa for his outstanding job teaching our kickboxing program and Kris Shaw for her dedication to training and to the TBJJ Academy and its teammates. We also awarded TBJJ student Brian Swienton The Students of The Year for his positive aproach to training and learning BJJ and his sense of teammanship. It was a nice family gathering with the Tinguinha BJJ Students, families, friends and BJJ Black Belts, Kris Shaw, Mike Brown and Paulo Guillobel. Tinguinha BJJ Academy at The North American Mixed Martial Arts Expo!!

The Tinguinha BJJ Academy was part of the North American Mixed Martial Arts Expo that took place last Saturday and Sunday Dec. 1st and 2nd at the Anaheim Convention center. We had a booth at the Expo with a TBJJ Academy's team working, Mike Brown, PJ Corona, Greg Lawson, Livia Mariano and Professor "Tinguinha" and we did a Brazilian JiuJitsu demonstration with Professor "Tinguinha" and assistant instructor Greg Lawson. Many of our felow teammates visited our booth making it a TBJJ Academy family affair. We would like to thank all of those students for the support. Below are a few pictures from the Exposition.

" Tinguinha" Anaheim Police Department Seminar

Last Wednesday Nov. 21st, Professor "Tinguinha" taught a seminar at the Anaheim Police Department for its officers. The seminar was great, professor "Tinguinha" taught Brazilian JiuJitsu Self Defense techniques.
We at the Tinguinha Brazilian JiuJitsu Academy would like to thank the Anaheim Police Department for the great reception. It is an honor for our school to provide training and contribute to our city's law enforcement department.

Workshop at the MCBJJ School

Professor "Tinguinha" taught a workshop at The MC Brazilian JiuJitsu Schoo last Friday Nov. 10th to comemorate the Opening of their school at a different location.The workshop had the presence of TBJJ Black Belt Mike Brown and Andreh Anderson a Black Belt from The Rey Diogo BJJ School, each of them taught a technique at the class. Thanks Giving Holiday!!

9th Tinguinha BJJ Academy Belt Ceremony

The Tinguinha BJJ Academy is proud to announce our 9th Belt Ceremony, which will take place Saturday, December 8th at The TBJJ Academy. The Ceremony will count with the presence of Brazilian JiuJitsu Black Belts and some of our fellow students will be promoted to Blue, Purple and Brown Belts as well as with stripes in all Belts. California Classic International Brazilian JiuJitsu Competition!!

Last weekend November 3rd and 4th we had some of our fellow TBJJ teammates compete in the California Classic International Brazilian JiuJitsu Competition
David Leon and Frank Ruiz got 2nd place in the Blue Belt in their respective divisions. Congratulations to all TBJJ students who competed for giving their all.

Kris Shaw Seminar

BJJ Black Belt and TBJJ teammate Kris Shaw just came back from Michigan, where she went to teach a seminar at the East West Martial Arts School. The school is in Canton Michigan and they carried seminars throughout the weekend including Kids, Judo, Leg locks and Kris was the invited instructor to teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

TBJJ Students -PFC Fight Results!!!!

TBJJ Black Belt Luis "Speedy" Gonzalez had his debut in the MMA fight world last October 18th at the PFC event that took place at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Cassino in Lemoore, CA .
Luis fought Josh Besneatte and with a great performance he won byTKO(strikes). Also fighting the event was Marc DeLaCruz from The Tinguinha BJJ Academy's affiliated school- Samurai Dojo. Marc lost but had a great performance and showed a lot of heart. Below are some pictures from the event.
