Kid’s & Youth Program

We will systematically increase your child’s level of confidence, energy, focus, enthusiasm through the martial arts system.

Dear Parents,

Let me introduce myself and talk about our Tinguinha BJJ Youth Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program. My name is Mauricio "Tinguinha" Mariano and I am a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt 6th degree with over 30 years of experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and have been teaching this martial art for over 25 years. I started training this martial art at a very young age and truly understand the positive influence it brought to my life as well as had the opportunity to see this happening in many kids lives. I can say with confidence that our youth/kids martial art program will change your kid's life. Our program is based on true martial arts values; teaching our kids to be a better person inside and outside of the mat.Our goal is to teach the most effective self defense method along with self discipline, concentration, positive mental attitude and respect. Please pay close attention to our information below and learn more about our BJJ Kids & Youth Program and don't miss the chance to give your child a gift that will last a lifetime.

Thank you and I look forward to seeing you here with the TBJJ Family.

Frequently Asked Questions

How old does my child have to be to start training?
We recommend that children start at 5 years old. However, since no two kids are the same, and there can be significant differences in coordination and maturity, we are willing to evaluate children younger than 5.

What is the difference between Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and other forms of martial arts for kids?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu enables practitioners to subdue their opponents without the use of punching and kicking, eliminating the need to use excessive force in a real-life self-defense situation. BJJ is a martial art that uses grappling techniques and is ideal for diffusing school fights. Nobody has to get hurt with Jiu-Jitsu. The idea of "tapping out" during training allows the students to keep their training realistic, yet safe.

My child is already very energetic. I’m afraid martial arts training will encourage aggression, is this true?
Not at all! In fact, martial arts provide an outlet for children in which to channel aggression and excess energy. Our children’s programs focus on developing behavioral and attitudinal aspects inherent with martial arts such as respect, confidence, discipline and control. Through providing a fun and safe atmosphere for kids, we can foster a healthy environment in which they can learn and develop not only self-defense skills, but life skills as well.

Are there ever any tournaments in the area where my kids can compete in? Absolutely! Even though competing is not a must, we indeed encourage children to do so, as it will help them develop focus and hard work.

Teaching kids is not easy – what qualifications do your instructors have to teach my child?
Teaching kids is definitely not easy! But it is one of the most rewarding experiences in the world. All of our instructors have been certified to teach through Professor "Tinguinha". Through our Instructor Development Program, we essentially teach our instructors how to teach in order to ensure your child receives the highest quality Instruction.

Is the curriculum safe for my child?
The curriculum is very safe for your child. The attention to safety and the student’s well being always comes first. Martial arts training is a sport, just like baseball, soccer, football or basketball. Injuries will occur. Collisions will happen. Proper martial arts training includes contact. If it doesn’t, how can it possibly be called self-defense? We use the proper safety equipment, instructor supervision and rules in order to be sure your child is as safe as possible while learning a very real and practical self-defense system.

What people are saying.

“I really enjoy classes here for my child. The instructors are exceptional and great with the children. They take care to help them understand the art. Since coming here my son showed growth in listening and following directions. It's nice to see him growing as an individual.”

— Melissa O. - Mom

“Naturally being a mom I was worried at first but the instructors here make sure that the learning environment is very safe and also very fun.”

— Michelle T.  - Mom

“Since my kids have been training Brazilian jiu-jitsu, they are more confident. You can tell that they carry it over to other activities. They are more comfortable with themselves and with other people and more comfortable in situations that kids would not be comfortable in like speaking in front of people and stuff.”

— Amanda D. - Mom
